A lady in my office was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and has been undergoing chemo therapy for a while (God bless her). Now, I'm sure everyone has seen the Seinfeld episode where Elaine is pissed off because there are so many office parties she has to participate in...well, that's about what's gonna happen to me I'm afraid.
Everytime this woman hits a mile stone in her treatments, we have some kind of party for her. Parties are fine, (they actually take up some time from the work day) but we all know the problem......every time there is a party, we're all expected to buy or pay for something.
The latest of these "parties" was today. The lady from work had her last chemo treatment last week and we gave her gifts and balloons. Fine....but to make matters worse, we all had to go to lunch together at the Olive Garden. I have been trying not to spend a whole lot of money lately and these people are acting as if we're all rich.
Other made to pay/buy situations include: company christmas parties, employee birthdays, spousal return from military duty, and employee child births.

A party for her last day of chemo?!?!?!?!?!
Who the hell is organizing these things?
Chemo is rough and I'm not making light of the fact that breast cancer is a serious issue....but having a party for every milestone seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I KNOW!!! but the last treatment is a big deal...it basically means she beat it (for now,...at least I think that's what it means) I'm not really sure...but I know chemo sucks and she is glad it's over...so, we celebrated

You should have all sang "Get well, get well soon. We want you to get well." to her everday.
